Self-Sacrificial Love

Nov 2, 2025    Owen Mason

Self-Sacrificial Love,” based on Ephesians 5, calls believers to imitate Christ’s example by walking in love, purity, and wisdom. As children of God, we are urged to live lives that reflect His character—lives marked by humility, compassion, and a willingness to give of ourselves for the good of others. Christ’s sacrificial love on the cross is the model for how we are to love one another daily, even when it costs us comfort or pride.

This kind of love stands in contrast to the selfishness and sin that characterize the world. Believers face daily battles—temptations toward impurity, greed, bitterness, or conformity to worldly values—but through the renewing power of the Holy Spirit, we can live as “living sacrifices,” holy and pleasing to God. The call is to examine our hearts, identify what competes with God’s will, and allow His light to expose and cleanse those areas.

Walking in self-sacrificial love also means walking wisely. Scripture reminds us to make the best use of our time, to seek God’s wisdom, and to stay spiritually awake in an evil age. When we love as Christ loved, we reveal His glory to a darkened world. True love is not about emotion or convenience—it is a deliberate, Spirit-led act of obedience that reflects God’s own heart.

Through this love, others see Christ in us, and our lives become a fragrant offering to God.
